Names, dates and substitutions like “@” for “a” are predictable. This tool selects characters using your browser’s cryptographic random number generator.
Generate a different password for every service. Store them in a password manager and enable two-factor authentication for another layer of protection.
Choose Password mode, keep the default 20 characters or set your own length, choose the character sets and select Generate again. Copy the result using the copy button. Always use a different password for every account.
Random values are generated locally using the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues). Passwords are not sent to our server, included in the page URL or stored in generator history. Use a trusted device and review the extensions installed in your browser.
Entropy is the base-2 logarithm of the number of possible results with your settings. Password calculations account for the required character categories; passphrases use the EFF dictionary size; PINs use the number of digits. This measures the generator’s randomness, not the security of an account or whether a password has been leaked.
A passphrase uses randomly chosen words and is easier to read or type manually. We use the open EFF list of 7,776 English words. Six random words provide about 78 bits of entropy. Do not replace random words with a quotation or familiar sentence. EFF wordlists ↗
